First Timers: Circuit Club Wakefield Park March 17th 2012

Waking up at 3am is never fun. But waking up at 3am to rain, lightning and thunder for a first time track day at Wakefield Park in Goulburn must have been a daunting experience! Luckily I was photographing it.

I was off to meet a bunch of fellow Mitsubishi Evo enthusiasts who had never done a track day before at Suttons Forest McDonalds at 6am who had finally bit the bullet to do a track day. Circuit Club is renowned for their well run track days and lots of track time which is why they are so popular and as I was driving through the rain on the way out there I wondered what the nerves must be like for a first timer. A few people had pulled out of the day but Sydney’s terrible weather wasn’t going to damper the spirits of a bunch of anxious and nervous soon to be track fiends.

Luckily Wakefield has reasonable run off areas and the Circuit Club driver instructors were very knowledgeable around the track and know it like the back of their hand. At least that’s what Mike, Andrew, Ryan, Anthony and Gian were hoping!

Tired and dreary eyed we arrived at the track with myself and my mate having a nap while the guys went on the track walk at 7.30am to familiarize themselves with each corner, driving lines and braking points. After signing on and the guys attending the drivers briefing, it was time for the first session to commence.

Feeling a little nervous the evo’s were pottering around getting used to the track and the wet weather conditions.

This Civic went off early and was one of many that were trying to adapt to the conditions.

Feeling confident and with the track drying a little bit the drivers started laying down some quality laps.

Ryan seemed to find his way after a Circuit Club instructor hopped in and showed him the way. A 1.12.5 on street tyres and a first timer is a pretty decent effort.

This Corvette looked great.

Who doesn’t love the sound of an AMG C63?

Street driven Lexus with roof racks? Yes please.

One of the coolest mods you can do!

Surprisingly around lunchtime the sun came out and the track was pretty much dry except for the water run off which kept drivers on the edge of their seats. Phil Heafey was testing out his new Hollinger Sequential Gearbox.

Slicks Anyone?

The Ralliart Colt was surprisingly quick!

This MNR Clubman is a turbocharged crazy weapon! Extremely rare and quick.

S13’s are a great platform for drifting and time attack!

Circuit Club welcomes all kinds of cars. Falcons and commodores included and they doing some impressive times!

It’s all about having fun!

Jeff Denmeade and his Skelta

Mike was concerned that his transfer case had blown and later in the day realized both his CV’s needed changing. Not good news for a first timer! Limp mode was enabled and it was enough to get him home.

This WRX was putting some great times throughout the day. Even in the wet conditions he was pushing it!

With the upcoming Evo Nationals, Fin was getting some quality seat time.

This GTR and it’s straight through exhaust sounded so pr0n.

Tuned to suit 98 Ron.

Needless to say, it was a great day, the weather made it more dramatic but we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be back sooner than later. Our track noobies are now track fiends and keen to get back there!

Big thanks to Narada and the Circuit Club crew for organizing a great day!

Great coverage and awesome pics :)

And We Enter 2012!

Well we are just over a full month into 2012 actually, but for myself, this is when 2012 starts for me. I know i haven’t posted anything for over a month but i’ve had the entire January off, taking a break from all the work i’ve had both with and without photography and now it’s time to get back into the full swing of things! With plenty of events coming up, expect to see plenty of event coverage over the next 11 months.

Plans to head overseas this year have been thwarted by the lack of funds. Heading into 2013 i have some fun plans but i will reveal them later if it actually happens. For now, here’s a teaser shot from a shoot that isn’t finished yet due to time constraints and Sydney’s lately terrible weather!

Zen Garage Grand Opening

Saturday December 10th was the official launch of Zen Garage in Leichhardt, Sydney. Zen Garage was founded by Justin Fox and co and is dedicated to the car community to hold events, presentations, meets and for people to just chill out. It represents the pinnacle of automotive culture that is much needed in Sydney.

There were plenty of people that turned up.

The DJ’s was cranking out some sweet beats all day.

Zen Garage are the first in Australia to be an official Illest clothing supplier. The stock didn’t last long with shirts disappearing off the shelves quickly.

If you’ve never played a racing simulator with a proper wheel, definitely have a go!

All those Initial D fans out there – Eat your heart out.

The Tith Brothers doing their thing! To see there take on the day click HERE!

Zen Garage also features a library like section where people can just grab a magazine of any genre and just have a read. Great for those that don’t really know all the Japanese magazines that are out there.

There were plenty of drinks for everyone. The food got demolished though!

Photographers taking photos of photographers. The way of the future.

This Evo was on display inside Zen Garage and had some nice carbon additions.

This RX-7 looks like it was getting rebuilt with some nice goodies!

Matt liked the graphics on this skateboard deck. It had a girl on it and he got excited.

Sticker bombing the fridge.

Outside was a very chilled atmosphere with some nice cars around!

Euro and JDM Combining for a sweet combination.

Bagged Lexus was looking sweet VIP style!

So head on down to Zen Garage for the next meet or get in contact with Justin if you want to hang out there or buy some stuff. It is great for the Sydney automotive culture and support your local places!

Great coverage of photos here Kory :)

Your Vote Is Needed!

I thought i would post this up on the blog and try to get everyones help in getting my two images to #1 spot! I’m well behind first place, not quite sure how they are sooooo far in front but they obviously have some generous friends!

Tyreright is holding a photo competition that is being public voted on the social media platform that is Facebook. A great competition with some quite good entries! If any of my photos make it in to the top 12 they will be included in Tyrerights 2012 calendar and i will receive 30% off my next purchase of tyres. First place gets $1000 worth of tyres. The Evo just got new shoes, so help a brother out!

You can vote twice for the same image in one day. There are two options. “Love it” and “Leave it”. You want to clicking Love It! Refresh your browser and click it again and your help would be much appreciated!

Both my images are from World Time Attack 2011 held at Eastern Creek. You can see both the images below.

I do believe you will need to do this from a computer as the Contests application for facebook is not compatible on the mobile platform. At least it doesn’t on an iPhone.

Show some love! Spread the word and i’ll love you long time!

Import Monster Skylines Australia Nationals 2011

I’ve been looking forward to this event for a while and now the Skylines Australia Nationals 2011 is officially over and what an event it was! Listening to RB motors screaming all day around a track to a nice and quiet Show n shine the day after at Shepparton Showground was quite the contrast.

Skylines from across the nation congregated on Shepparton Friday 28th October, arriving for the track day on Saturday at Winton Raceway. I don’t think Shepparton was ready for the barrage of cars and hungry animals but we descended on it anyway and left our mark.

Bright and early we arrived at Winton Raceway and the weather gods had not been kind to us. Lots of rain and clouds which meant that the track was very slippery and bad news for a pack of angry skylines ready to unleash fury on Winton. Cars were put into 5 classes and prizes were handed out to the top 3 in each class.

Although it was bad weather, everyone was still getting their cars ready passing through scrutineering, putting fuel in the car, checking tyre pressures, removing unwanted weight, last minute repairs and suiting up for a big day.

The rain tested the skills of the drivers in the first few sessions and for many it was a first to be driving at Winton. Learning lines and braking points, it wasn’t long until many were getting faster and faster.

This S14 unfortunately blew a turbo gasket and had to leave early.

Crowd favourite and all around good bloke Russell Cunningham was putting on a show.

This R34 meant business.

What is becoming ever so popular now is to record lap times and take video to share with the community. SAU NSW’s go pro expert Eric Yamashita demonstrates a great angle here!

RedBus Racing had their R33 GTST Track car as well as there immaculate replica Winfield R32 GTR.

Import Monster
were the naming rights sponsor and they had a trade stand where they were displaying many of the products they can bring in and sell.

Advan Australia
were also sponsoring the event and were keen to sign up a few more people in the Advan Neova Cup.

Inside the cockpit of an R33 GTR.

This BMW E36 M3 was surprisingly quick.

Midnight Purple R33 GTR anyone?

John Richardson and his R33 GTST was spitting flames out all day!

R35 GTR Goodness was had by all!

Who doesn’t like an RB26 screaming!

As the day came to an end and many people were packing up, a lot of the people were headed to the carwash to get rid of the bugs and track dirt for Sundays Show n Shine. I would of followed them but after being awake for 36 hours straight and driving 8 hours to get there, I needed some sleep!

After awaking on Sunday morning we headed to Shepparton Showground and arrived to Skylines galore. Any import fan would have been frothing at the amount of quality Skylines that were on display.

Any Skyline fan would be frothing! Check out some photos from the show n shine below.

This Time Attack R33 GTR blew me away at how clean it was. Everything just “fits” together. Just right.

R33 GTST with some serious low!

RedBus Racing on display.

A white R34 GTR, AP Racing brakes and black Volk TE37′s. My dream!

That’s a fat ass!

AMPerformance cars were great over the whole weekend.

All the important peeps on the window!

Need i say anything?!

A big thanks must go to Ash Cosgriff for organizing the entire weekend of fun filled events and to all the sponsors. This event will be bigger than ever next year and with a lot more planned already, you don’t want to miss it!
